If you’re new to Saint Louis or just looking to branch out, the music scene is a good place to start. Looking for rock n’ roll? Try Red Flag Concert Venue. They also offer music lessons for kids eighteen and under. Want something more psychedelic? Venice Cafe is the place to go. Not only is Venice Cafe filled with colorful, mind-bending decor, but they also have turtles, yes turtles, on the second floor. There’s also an open mic on Mondays for those looking to share their budding talent.
For jazz lovers, two venues that feature jazz live performance are The Dark Room STL and BBB Jazz, Blues and Soups. Both have wine and food, the BBB’s described as ‘Southern inspired comfort food.’ Depending on the night you’ll also hear blues, R&B, soul, and americana.
If you’re looking to hit the dance floor, Handlebar STL or Broadway Boat bar are your best bet. Metal-heads will find refuge at The Sinkhole, in South City. For those wanting both an auditory and visual experience, Sophie’s Artist Lounge features a mural gallery as well as various DJ’s and occasional live music. A full concert experience can be found at Saint Louis Music Park in the summertime, or The Pageant on Delmar Blvd. These venues feature more popular artists and some big names.
The Attic Music Bar provides a laid-back atmosphere, where you can drink but still hear a friend from across the table. Located in the central west end, Blue Strawberry STL also has a quiet atmosphere. You can order dinner at a nice table and just soak it in. They are also open for booking private events.
If you’re sick of socializing, record shops are still around in STL. Rich’s Record Emporium, Dead Wax Records, The Record Exchange, Vintage Vinyl, Planet Score Records, Euclid Records, and The Record Space, to name a few. It’s a great way to discover older artists.
Whether you’re just visiting, or a Saint Louis Native, we hope you have a great time in the city. Let us know your experience if you visit any one of these venues!
